Up the Rigi by electricity
Electrification of the Arth-Rigi Railway mountain line began in 1905. The contract for the planning and electrical equipment was won by electrical engineers Caspar Wüst of Zurich-Seebach. The latter company had traction units nos. 3-5 made by the Rastatt rolling stock company. The units could accommodate 120 passengers and were powered by two 130 HP motors driving the axles of the uphill bogie. A revision in 1939 saw the voltage, traction and speed increased.
